About Summit Carpentry & Conversions
A local building and carpentry company offering experienced workmanship, honest advice and clear communication.
Who We Are.
We’re a small building and carpentry company based in the Forest of Dean, working across Bristol, Gloucestershire and South Wales. Our team brings over 30 years of combined trade experience to extensions, renovations, loft and garage conversions, and residential building projects.
Summit was founded by Ben, who leads the projects and works on site every day alongside the team. He manages the build while carrying out the work, giving customers direct contact with someone who knows their project in detail. We also work with trusted subcontractors we’ve known and worked alongside for years when their expertise is needed.
Our experience includes structural alterations, challenging loft conversions and extensive renovations. Each property has its own quirks, so we take time to understand your home and plan the work around it. We work closely with structural engineers, trusted subcontractors and building control, keeping the work coordinated and standards high throughout.
What Matters To Us.
Working in someone’s home is a responsibility we take seriously. We want you to feel comfortable with the team you’ve chosen, confident in the work and able to ask questions whenever you need to. That starts with honest advice and doing what we say we’ll do.
Clear communication means knowing how your project is progressing and what’s happening next. We talk you through the day’s progress, explain the upcoming work and keep you informed about timings, so you’re never left wondering where things stand.
We focus on one main project at a time so we can give your home our full attention. When builders take on too much work, customers can be left in limbo, unsure when their job will move forward. We don’t want anyone working with us to feel that way, which is why we keep our workload manageable and stay focused on your project.
Your ideas and preferences matter throughout the build. We listen to what you want to achieve, offer practical suggestions and explain any limitations. When decisions need to be made, we take the time to talk them through with you so you feel involved and comfortable with what’s agreed.
We’re proud members of the Federation of Master Builders. Our membership involves checks on our business and inspections of our work, and we commit to their Code of Conduct each time we renew. This sets expectations for workmanship, clear communication and how we treat our customers. We want you to be happy with your home and the experience of working with us, and confident in recommending us to others.
How It Started.
Ben started as an apprentice carpenter in Bristol, gaining hands on experience across a wide range of residential projects. He went on to work as a site foreman and later in regional management within a larger construction company, gaining experience in both carrying out the work and managing its delivery.
Along the way, he saw how poor workmanship, weak organisation and a lack of communication could affect customers and their experience of building work. Seeing standards slip and homeowners left unsure about what was happening led him to want more control over how projects were run.
He founded Summit so he could set those standards himself and stay involved in meeting them. By leading the projects and working alongside the team, Ben can address issues as they arise, keep customers informed and make sure the work receives the attention he believes it should.
